North Dakota National Guard Sgt. Terry L. Rishling, 36, Fargo, ND. 18 Feb 10

A very large Thank You to all who participated in the Sgt. Terry Rishling mission today. Although I was not at the airport, I know that there were many that were present to welcome this hero home. To everyone who made it to the funeral home, again Thank You. Your presence was noticed and appreciated by the family, other military members, and our Governor. There ended up being approximately a dozen from North Dakota and Minnesota Patriot Guard that stood a flag line for the arrival of Sgt. Rishling and his family, military honors, and remained through the visitation.

I spoke with several family members who were all very appreciative of your efforts and dedication. They also requested that their thanks be passed on to each and every one of you. Sgt. Rishling’s wife, Nancy Rishling, and parents, John and Gloria Rishling, all stated that they were deeply touched by the honor shown to their loved one. Governor Hoeven also personally thanked each in the flag line. General Sprynczynatyk conveyed his thanks and appreciation for the commitment shown by the Patriot Guard as well. In my experience with both Governor Hoeven and General Sprynczynatyk, they both speak from their hearts of their appreciation for the members of this organization.

Although our mission is not necessarily ever an easy mission, in some measure, it is “easy” to participate when the weather is warm, or we are indoors, or it is convenient. To see the response for a mission when it is during the week, in multiple locations, outdoors, and well below freezing is nothing less than amazing. My respect for each of you and your commitment and dedication is beyond words. “Thank you” seems so inadequate at times like this.

A special thanks also goes out to Ride Captain Craig Haug for coming from Bismarck to assist us. Another special thanks to our brothers and sisters from Minnesota for their support.
