Joe Polfliet, 63, Viet Nam Veteran, Ghent, MN, 28 OCT 08

On Oct 4, 2008, the Patriot Guard Riders visited with Joe Polfliet and family at a benefit hog roast in Ghent, Mn. On Oct 28th, we gathered again for his funeral and interment.

Seven riders made the chilly early morning ride for the 9:30 am flag line, with four more arriving by car. Temperatures ranged from 22 to 29 degrees, with one rider coming from Brandon, South Dakota, a two hour ride. We welcomed family members Tim Hoffman and Charity Polfliet, who joined us in the escort.

Twenty American Legion and VFW members from Ghent and surrounding communities lined the steps to St. Eloi Catholic Church, with the PGR standing our flag line on both sides of the main sidewalk, as mourners walked between us.

We escorted the funeral procession to the rural cemetery, where the Honor Squad did their duty in honor of their brother, Joe Polfliet.

We stood down and gathered at the historic Silver Dollar Bar in Ghent for lunch and fellowship.
