Frank F. NaSal, WWII Veteran, Stillwater MN, 01 DEC 09

Frank NaSal US Navy WWII Veteran / Retired Army National Guard

Frank NaSal was 93 years old. We honored him today for his many years serving our country. His wife had passed away six months earlier and Frank passed away a day before their 69th wedding anniversary. The old soldier had left to celebrate it with his wife.

As a testament to our late autumn weather, four of the 21 PGR members attending rode their bikes. Our flag line was set up at the front and side of the funeral home as family and friends arrived for the service. As the service started we stood down. A military honor guard of three US Army soldiers performed the military ceremony after the service. They folded the flag and played Taps as a final honor and respect befitting this veteran.

Our flags again flew proudly as family and friends departed the service. As family thanked us for being there we expressed our honor to be invited to attend. Frank’s son-in-law told me Frank would be so proud to see us there. I told him I’m sure Frank was looking down at all these flags flying for him and his service to his country.

As the last to leave, Frank’s daughter and family carried out Frank’s ashes. We had moved our flag line to form a corridor for them to the parking lot. We saluted as they tearfully passed by. With dignity we honored and respected the passing of another veteran of our Greatest Generation.

I learned an interesting bit of information about Frank’s heritage. His father was with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show back in the very beginning of the 1900’s.
