Donald H. Neutgens, Army Veteran, St. Cloud, MN, 28 NOV 09

It was a nice crisp morning but 11 of us showed up to honor Donald Neutgens. I was just preparing to give a briefing but the family showed up 20 minutes early which turned into a "O' crap" moment for me. Fortunately, our MNPGR members are well acquainted with the flag line procedure and placement and all formed up immediately. I spoke with Rose Neutgens and her words were "Don would be so happy". Yep, you guys are awesome showing up to honor a man and comfort an unknown family. I know it means a lot to Rose Neutgens and her children.

We stood the flag line until just a bit after 11:00 a.m. then stood down during mass. We reformed close to noon but formed up to allow Don to respectfully be placed into the hearse. The VFW color guard gave a salute and played taps as Don was brought out of the church. All of Don's children were pallbearers and the final sting of a life's passing was very evident. The hearse drove awayh to take Don to his final resting place and the family and friends stayed at the church for lunch. The MNPGR members present stood down and departed.
