Pete Loscheider Mission Report

Ten of us staged at the Canteen just outside of Camp Ripleys main gate starting at 1 PM on Tuesday February 3rd. At about 1:35 we drove the short distance to the State Veterans Cemetery and set the flag line for the arrival of the family of Peter Loscheider. Pete was a decorated Army veteran of WWII in Europe. He served with distinction in an AAA Battalion there. Pete was married to his wife Lorene for 63 years and had 3 sons, 1 daughter, 7 grand children and 2 great grand children. There were the usual speed bumps with a sudden move to set a second flag line inside the building following the arrival of the family, and the commander of the rifle squad kind of forgot us when he went to set for the rifle salute, but we made it through. Pete's family was particularly appreciative of our presence and many expressed that as they were leaving. A twist of irony in that we just took part in a ceremony for Pete's brother Leo as he was awarded his Bronze Star for his service in Italy during WWII, albeit, 50+ years later. This took place in Little Falls.

Once again it was a great honor for the PG to pay tribute to an outstanding veteran and his family who have a huge military history.
